UBA Leads with Purpose on Zero Waste Day

United Bank for Africa Ghana Ltd in a thoughtful show of care for the environment and the community has celebrated this year’s Zero Waste Day by donating gently used clothes, household items, and everyday supplies to New Life Orphanage in Accra.

The initiative, held on April 04, 2025 aligns with UBA’s commitment to sustainability and social impact. Employees across all branches were encouraged to participate by collecting quality, pre-loved items from their homes. These contributions were then sorted, packed, and delivered to New Life Orphanage.

Apart from the used clothing, donated by the staff, the Bank also provided some food items and other essential household items needed for basic human habitation.

“We believe Zero Waste isn’t just about throwing less away—it’s about using things wisely and sharing what we no longer need with those who do. By donating gently used clothes, household items and consumable, we help reduce waste and support children who truly need these items. UBA staff carefully selected every item with love and a focus on reuse and sustainability”, said Emmanuel Sackey, Country Treasury at UBA Ghana.

Emmanuel Sackey pledged the commitment of the Bank to deepen its engagement and support to the society through initiatives by the UBA Foundation.

The donation was warmly received by the orphanage management, who expressed deep gratitude for UBA’s generosity and community-minded spirit. “These items will go a long way in improving the lives of our children,” said Cephas Mensah Afotey Director (Nii Afotey Botwe II) of New Life Nungua Orphanage.

UBA Ghana’s Zero Waste Day initiative forms part of the Bank’s larger agenda of environmental responsibility, waste reduction, and community upliftment. Through efforts like this, UBA continues to champion sustainability while making a tangible difference in the lives of the vulnerable.
