UBA Foundation’s Read Africa Initiative Empowers O’Reilly SHS Students

By ubaghana on June 26, 2024

In a bid to revitalize reading culture among African youth, the UBA Foundation has donated African literature books to O’Reilly Senior High School (SHS) through its Read Africa Initiative. This kind gesture aims to reverse the declining reading habits in secondary schools, fostering a love for reading and learning.

The donated books, including ‘The Kaya Girl’ by Mamle Wolo, ‘Segu’ by Maryse Conde, and ‘Fine Boys’ by Eghosa Imasuen, will enrich the school’s library and inspire a new generation of readers.

Henry Nii Dottey, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, and Evans Sallah, Head of SME at UBA Ghana, led the donation efforts, highlighting the transformative power of reading.

He further reiterated UBA Foundation’s commitment to empowering the next generation through education and CSR initiatives, saying, “We’re dedicated to shaping young minds and fostering a culture of learning, because we believe that education is the cornerstone of a thriving society

Evans Sallah, Head of SME at UBA Ghana, emphasized the significance of reading in shaping their future. “Readers are leaders, and knowledge is power,” he encouraged the students. “Through reading, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the world, develop critical thinking skills, and expand your perspectives.

Mrs. Nadia Annan, the Headmistress of O’Reilly SHS, thanked the UBA team on behalf of the staff and management of the school for the donation, acknowledging the significant impact these books will have on enhancing students’ English literature skills and vocabulary.

She added that the book will be put in good use. It will help expand the literature they have in their Reading Corner established on the school campus to encourage the students to read more.

Emmanuella Awatey, the Head Girl of O’Reilly SHS, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to UBA Foundation for the generous donation. With excitement, she said, “We are very happy to receive these books as it will impart valuable knowledge to every student who reads them. Thank you, UBA Foundation, for investing in our future

Through the Read Africa Initiative, UBA continues to make a lasting impact on Ghanaian children’s education and future, nurturing a love for reading and learning that will shape their lives and communities.
